Beschreibung
"The MG M-type was manufactured from April 1929 to 1932 and was sometimes referred to as the 8/33. Launched at the 1928 London Motor Show when sales of the larger MG saloons began to falter due to the economic climate, the small car brought MG ownership to a new sector of the market and probably saved the company. Early cars were made in the Cowley factory but from 1930, production had transferred to Abingdon. The M-Type was one of the first genuinely affordable sports cars to be offered by an established manufacturer as opposed to modified versions of factory-built saloon cars and tourers. Early bodies were fabric-covered using a wood frame; this changed to all-metal in 1931. Most cars had bodies made by Carbodies of Coventry and fitted by MG in either open two-seat or closed two-door ‘Sportsmans’ coupé versions. The M-type had considerable sporting success, both privately and with official teams winning gold medals in the 1929 Land's End Trial and class wins in the 1930 ‘Double Twelve’ race at Brooklands.
This delightful MG has had extensive work carried out on her in recent times and, as such, presents in very good order. The body benefits from relatively new front wings, new rear wings, side valences and new rear aprons. The chassis is fitted with new shackle pins and king pins and the wheels have been restored. Inside, this M-Type benefits from new interior trim and seating, all of this is protected by a new full length tonneau cover. The gauges have been restored with everything working as they should. Purchased by the vendor in 2017 with an engine that was seized, the engine was removed and another unit located. The vendor fully rebuilt the overhead camshaft engine prior to fitting into the MG, this appears to have been done to a good standard as she runs very well. In addition to this the vendor has rewired the car and converted her to 12 volts, at the same time he fitted very discrete LED rear lights which operate as indicators and additional brake lights. A mere 3,235 M-Types were manufactured prior to production ending in 1932, this example comes with a host of paperwork and appears to be attractively estimated."
