"The fixed-roof MGB GT was introduced in October 1965. Production continued until 1980, although export to the USA ceased in 1974. The MGB GT sported a ground-breaking greenhouse designed by Pininfarina and launched the sporty 'hatchback' style. By combining the sloping rear window with the rear deck lid, the BGT offered the utility of a station wagon while retaining the style and shape of a coupé. This new configuration was a 2+2 design with a right-angled rear bench seat and far more luggage space than in the roadster. Relatively few components differed, although the MGB GT did receive different suspension springs and anti-roll bars and a different windscreen which was more easily and inexpensively serviceable.
This lovely example presents well in black and should appeal to enthusiasts and first time classic buyers alike. It was purchased by the current owner as a project to keep his resident mechanic busy during the first Covid lockdown. His brief was to transform the car into this ‘Sebring’ style specification we see today. The car looks well with its sportier and more aggressive new look. This MG has benefitted from both time and money with most mechanical parts being upgraded or replaced and upon opening the bonnet you can see that nearly everything is brand new. The car drives well on its new wire wheels that feature new chrome spinners, the brakes have been upgraded and benefit from new drilled and grooved discs and calipers, and the stainless steel exhaust system is also new. The impressive look of this MG is completed with stainless steel sill covers and a new outer cover to the Webasto roof. Offered to auction with a UK V5C registration document, this MoT test exempt British sports car is both good value and easy to maintain.
