"This car can be viewed in person from 14th to 18th July 2020 at our the auction site, Windsorview Lakes, Datchet, SL3 9HY
Launched in 1962, the MGB would turn out to be one of the most successful sports cars of all time. Attractively styled, cheap to run and easily maintained by the home mechanic, the MGB carried on MG's traditional role of providing affordable, sports car motoring for the enthusiast. The MGB enjoyed an 18-year production life and sales totalling in excess of 500,000 cars. The example offered here has been built to replicate the famous works car, 'BMO 541B', which competed in the 12 Hours of Sebring race in 1965 carrying competitor number '49'. 'BMO' finished 25th overall and 10th in the Prototype class with Merle Brennan and Frank Morell at the wheel. The previous year competing at Le Mans, driven by Andrew Hedges and Paddy Hopkirk, it averaged 99.9mph and went on to win The Motor Trophy for the best-placed British car.Presented in good order throughout, the MGB was exported to Japan in the early 1990s, and competed in many SCCJ regulated sports car races before being placed into storage for some 20 years. The car was then purchased by a new owner who set about transforming the MGB to the 'BMO' specification it is in today. In 2018 the MGB was treated to upgrades including an engine built to 'fast road' specification by marque specialists MG Motorsport. In addition, a roll cage and new fuel tank have been installed and the front suspension rebuilt, all to FIA specification. In good order throughout the MGB comes with invoices amounting to over £25,000 for the various upgrades completed, it also benefits from being re-shelled with a Heritage shell. Currently fitted with a four speed synchromesh overdrive gearbox which is accepted for many race organisations, the MG is also supplied with the standard three speed gearbox and necessary ancillaries to take it back to its full FIA specification. This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a well sorted example that is sure to be a lot of fun for the new owner. Included in the sale is a photograph album, early paperwork and a UK V5C Registration document.
The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to Government guidelines throughout viewing and auction day."
