"The MGB was launched in May 1962 to replace the MGA and was introduced as a four-cylinder roadster with a coupé added in 1965. It was a relatively modern design at the time of its introduction, utilising a monocoque structure instead of the traditional 'body-on-frame' construction used on both the MGA and MG T-types. The lightweight design reduced manufacturing costs while adding to overall vehicle strength. Manual windows were standard and a comfortable driver's compartment offered plenty of legroom. The MGB's performance was considered brisk at the time of its introduction with a 0-60mph time of just over 11 seconds; this was aided by the relatively light weight of the car. Handling was one of the MGB's strong points. The three-bearing 1798cc, B-Series engine produced 95bhp at 5,400rpm with the engine upgraded in October 1964 to a five-bearing crankshaft to improve reliability. The MGB was one of the first cars to feature controlled crumple zones designed to protect the driver and passenger at a 30mph impact.
Originally registered on 1st June 1963, this MGB has had a very interesting life. Thought to have been purchased by a member of the USAF when stationed in the UK he took the car back to the US, living in the dry state of Arizona, retaining ownership of the car until 2002 when the car was repatriated to the UK. It was then sold to its second owner who kept MGB for nine years having had it rebuilt in 2009 to the hill climb specification you see today. The current owner purchased the car in 2011 with a view to testing and upgrading the specification before getting new papers and racing in 2012. The car tested well at Brands Hatch and Snetterton and was expected to be competitive for the 2012 season. However, the owner had a serious accident early in 2012 (not in the car) and the plans were put on hold. The MGB was put into environmentally controlled dry storage for a number of years, although it was regularly service and MoT’d. Unfortunately, time restraints and recovery from his injury means the vendor has never used the car for the purpose of which it was built and feels the time is right to let the car find a new home. The specification of the car is huge, however some important details to mention are it has a 1950cc engine with five main bearings, Peter Burgess head, Lotus Pistons, fully balanced, Weber 45DCOE carburettor, competition clutch, close ratio gearbox, 3.9 rear axle ratio, limited slip diff, full FIA roll-cage and seam welded body. Supplied with a V5C registration document, a Heritage Certificate and MoT test certificates from 2010-2019. If you are after fun on the track in a British classic look no further.
