Beschreibung
"Arguably one of the prettiest British sports cars ever built, the 'A' must have come as quite a shock to MG aficionados when it was first shown to the world in September 1955 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Having become accustomed to the pre-war look of the company's sports cars, it was a complete departure in styling and its beautiful streamlined body was right up to the minute in terms of appearance. Powered by a new engine; MG had decided that the old XPAG unit had had its day and so introduced a much more modern B Series engine that had made its debut in the recently announced Magnette Saloon. The car’s design dates back to 1951, when MG designer Syd Enever created a streamlined body for George Philips' TD Le Mans car but it was worth the wait for this timeless beauty.
Originally built as a left hand drive export car to the US, this MGA was repatriated to the UK in 1990. Upon returning to the UK the car underwent a body-off restoration and was converted to right hand drive guise. The engine was removed and a 2.0 Litre Rover 200 T-series, M16T twincam, 16 valve unit was fitted, producing circa 200 bhp. A five-speed gearbox was also fitted, along with coilover front suspension and uprated brakes including a servo. This handsome MGA is also fitted with 72-spoke chrome wire wheels and leather seats. An impressive history file, dating back to 1983 comes with this MGA as does a V5C registration document and a Heritage Certificate. The phrase that comes to mind is ‘a wolf in sheep’s clothing’. This lovely MGA is ready to enjoy straight away, either on rallies or local jaunts, who’s going to be lucky enough to enjoy it? Consignor Stewart Banks
