"Arguably one of the prettiest British sports cars ever built, the 'A' must have come as quite a shock to MG aficionados when it was first shown to the world in September 1955 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Having become accustomed to the pre-war look of the company's sports cars, it was a complete departure in styling and its beautiful streamlined body was right up to the minute in terms of appearance. Powered by a new engine; MG had decided that the old XPAG unit had had its day and so introduced a much more modern B Series engine that had made its debut in the recently announced Magnette Saloon. The car’s design dates back to 1951, when MG designer Syd Enever created a streamlined body for George Philips' TD Le Mans car, but was worth the wait for this timeless beauty.
Originally a lefthand drive car, the pretty MG A on offer here was converted to righthand drive upon its repatriation to the UK in 2004. Originally red, the car was repainted in its current colour of white upon its return. The vendor reports the car to be in very good overall mechanical condition and the car started and ran very well on the day of viewing. It has been treated to a new tan interior in the past 18 months and has a matching tan coloured hood. The bodywork is not perfect and elements of the paint would benefit from some attention. The meticulous vendor has kept a log of all his use with the car, from trips away to service maintenance. Overall the car is a good, solid, mechanically strong, useable classic, which is only for sale due to its decreasing use.
Supplied with a V5C registration document together with various bills, service logs and a tonneau cover, this lovely little MG A would make an ideal running restoration or could equally be enjoyed as it is."
