"The fifth generation of the legendary SL series convertible sports cars was known as the R230. It featured a fully retractable hardtop that was marketed as the Vario Roof, a first for the SL class although it had been available on the smaller SLK model since 1997. The flagship models were built by AMG in the form of the SL55 and SL65, both highly tuned versions of the SL500 and SL600 respectively. The SL55 was powered by a mighty supercharged version of the 5.5 litre, V8 which produced 493bhp and achieved 0-62 in 4.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 155mph (governed). In theory, the SL55 could reach 190mph if the car was derestricted but, for many, the acceleration and top speed is impressive enough in its standard form!
Presented in Obsidian Black with a grey full leather trim, this SL55 was first registered 14th June 2006. Specified with the desirable panoramic glass roof, keyless go and comfort seats. The options alone were £4,695 taking this to a car that cost its first owner £102,925. Serviced initially by Mercedes-Benz main agents, however recently the car has been serviced by independents with the last undertaken by UK Technics in Maidenhead, Berkshire in June 2021. The car was purchased via video during Covid in June 2021, a copy of which can be found on our website describing the car. This privately owned SL55 also boasts an MoT test certificate valid until November 2023. A lovely example sitting on 19” 18 spoke alloy wheels, this is a fantastic example that cost in excess of £100,000 when new and will still embarrass many supercar owners today with its performance."
