Beschreibung
Chassis No. WDBBA48D2KA094740
Introduced in 1971, the R107-generation SL was not only a testament to Mercedes-Benz's manufacturing ethos at the time, but also the high standards set by its predecessor, the revered W113 "Pagoda." From the outset, the new SL was designed as a safe, luxurious cruiser, earning the pre-launch nickname "der Panzerwagen" (the armored car) for its robust construction and improved safety technology. While it was heavier than its predecessor as a result, it was also significantly more powerful, with Mercedes drafting in the V8 engines from its larger sedans to power the long-distance cruiser. By 1986, ever-evolving engine offerings meant that the 500 SL represented the top of the range in Europe, while in displacement terms, North America received the ultimate iteration of the R107 range in the 5.5-liter, 227 horsepower 560 SL.
This remarkably low-mile, well-preserved 560 SL was originally specified as it presents today with Signal Red paintwork – said to be the original finish by the consignor – and a Black convertible top over a matching Black leather interior. It additionally retains its desirable body-color factory hard top and rarely-seen optional heated front seats. Delivered new to Toronto, Canada, a digital copy of the original purchase invoice on file indicates that the car was sold via Mercedes-Benz Canada on 1 December 1988. The Mercedes was cherished by the original owner's family for a remarkable three decades, enjoying regular maintenance and careful preservation as evidenced by its high degree of originality and stamped service booklet showing repeated visits to Mercedes Benz Canada. Passing to a new caretaker in 2019, the car has traveled a mere 275 kilometers since leaving the stable of its original owner and stands as one of the best-preserved 560 SLs offered for sale in recent memory, showing just 17,553 kilometers at the time of cataloging. Offered with its original tools as well as full-body paint protection film, this supremely elegant German tourer is well suited for many more miles of top-down motoring.
