"DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL, THIS LOT HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN FROM THE AUCTIONIntroduced early in 1971, this impressive two-seater sports car replaced the 280 SL. The body and chassis of the third generation Mercedes-Benz SL was considerably heavier and longer than its predecessor but still showed a resemblance to them. The 3.5 litre, V8 engine underwent slight modifications to those being used on other models and the gear shift lever was placed on the floor in the centre of the car. The standard transmission provided a top speed of 130mph and a very respectable 0-62mph in 8.8 seconds. As with the previous generation SL's, the vehicle came as an open roadster with removable hardtop and went on to become one of the longest running styles from Mercedes-Benz. A range of engine sizes were available, one of the more powerful was the 4.5 litre unit.
This example has been substantially altered in the Koenig style (not done by Koenig). Koenig Specials is a German tuning house based in Munich that specialised in modifications to European luxury cars, they gained notability in the 1980s and 1990s for their performance modifications to Ferraris. This Mercedes-Benz is presented in Pearlescent White with flared arches and has a red leather interior including a red dashboard with red dials. This is a striking motor car with twin exhausts, factory hardtop and hood which is certainly a great head-turner. Powered by the 4.5 litre V8, this SL sports car would be a great tourer or just to pose at the pub!The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to Government guidelines throughout viewing and auction day."
