The elegant styling and undeniable appeal of the Mercedes-Benz 230 SL “Pagoda” made the German two-seater popular at the time of its first availability in the 1960s, and its long-lasting charm has sustained demand as a coveted collector car since then. First introduced in 1963 as the 230 SL, the new-generation W113 Mercedes-Benz roadster was designed by Paul Braq. The model earned its Pagoda nickname thanks to the distinctive concave removeable hardtop. The W113 established the blueprint for nearly all future SL models, combining luxurious trimmings, impeccably sophisticated style, and engineering excellence in a motorcar meant to deliver its occupants safely, rapidly, and in unrivaled comfort and style.

The 280 SL offered here was acquired by Mercedes-Benz Classic Center of Long Beach, California, in February 2013 for a comprehensive restoration. With areas of the car remaining in presentable, original condition at the time, great care was taken to preserve as much as possible. As such, the Pagoda retains the black MB-Tex upholstery first fitted to the car over half a century ago. A letter from the Classic Center further notes the matching-numbers engine. While the exterior presents with the factory delivery color of White Grey, a two-tone scheme was implemented during the restoration, with the hardtop and hub caps tastefully finished in Graphite Grey. With the project completed in 2016, the car was sold to its current owner.

Well equipped, this 280 SL possesses a Frigiking air-conditioning unit, an automatic transmission, and a Becker Europa stereo. Additionally, the car is accompanied by a tool roll, manuals, a copy of the data card, and the aforementioned hardtop.

Under current ownership, the Mercedes-Benz has been part of a private collection stored in a climate-controlled facility. An onsite technician provided maintenance at regular intervals and within the last 50 miles the car received fresh fluids and necessary service for the upcoming sale.

The quality of this Mercedes-Benz is undeniable. The expert hands at the Classic Center complete the highest quality restorations evident in the workmanship and quality of details in this appealing example.
