Beschreibung
Debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963, the W113 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL replaced the 300 SL and 190 SL at once. An undisputed design and engineering triumph, the new and sporty, yet entirely rational, Mercedes-Benz progressed through the 250 SL, and subsequently introduced four-wheel disc brakes to the 2.8-liter 280 SL, which was built from November 1967 to February 1971. Delivering more power, torque, and flexibility than its predecessors, the 280 SL remains the most popular and enjoyable variant of the W113 series.
This lovely 280 SL benefits from an extensive, bare-metal restoration by marque expert Gernold Nisius at SL-TECH in Arundel, Maine. Documented by a 30-minute video slideshow, the restoration work was completed with exceptional fit and finish, and utilized NOS parts wherever possible. Painted in its stunning original shade of Bronze Metallic with a matching removable hardtop and brown convertible top, this SL is complemented by exceptionally well-fitted tan leather upholstery, square-weave carpeting, and excellent wood trim. Desirable amenities include air-conditioning and a Becker Europa radio. The engine and its compartment are correctly equipped and finished, and the trunk is correctly fitted with a covered spare tire and tools. These cars are among the most reliable and usable roadsters of the era, offering a wonderful opportunity for those who prize quality and engineering. Striking throughout, this lovely Mercedes-Benz 280 SL is an unqualified design icon, ready for a multitude of desirable shows and classic tours.
