Beschreibung

The Mercedes 280SL ‘Pagoda' was introduced in December 1967 and continued in production through until February 1971. Over the years, the W113 evolved from a ‘sports car' into a comfortable ‘grand tourer'. The obvious change from its predecessor was the upgrade to the 2778cc M130 engine, which purists will tell you finally gave the Pagoda adequate power. Now suitably refined, the car proved popular in the US market, however, we've seen a significant increase in demand here in the UK - not least due to the 190SL rising beyond the budgets of many.

This fantastic example being offered here is an original RHD car that is presented with a truly fantastic history file.

Subject to a thorough restoration some 10 years ago the car also benefits from being refreshed and repainted in its original dark blue color in 2013. As a result of this the car presents very well indeed having seen minimal use since.

The car is offered with one of the finest histories Silverstone Auctions has seen with history dating back to new including the original purchase invoice for the car, Owners handbooks and extensive early maintenance history which appears to continue until 1981. From looking through these records we can also denote that the car was subject to a speedo change at 56,147miles in 1978.

‘Pagoda' Mercedes are now becoming highly sort after by collectors and enthusiasts alike. A car presented with such a bulging history and in superb condition would be particularly hard to find again.
