What a beautiful car this is! This 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda was supplied to its first owner
by the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvanian Mercedes-Benz dealership. She kept the car until 1987 when she
passed the car on to her son. He decided to sell the car in 2005. Since then only one German gentleman
has owned the car, a dedicated devotee as the following will show.
The car had only clocked up 88,114 miles when it arrived in Europe in 2005. In the meantime only 9,000
miles extra have been added to the tally. Over the last 15 years the maintenance has been exemplary.
A new radio was fitted, concealed in the glovebox compartment with the original Becker still working
and in its original place. A new exhaust was fitted in 2008. The master brake cylinder was replaced in
2009. In 2013 the whole of the car’s interior was decked out in new cognac coloured leather with
matching carpets and a new green hood. The latter choice of hood colour being based on factory
information showing this 280SL had originally been supplied with a green hood. In 2018 extensive
maintenance was carried out to the tune of € 2,627. The invoice details the works done relate to new
brakes, spark plugs and ignition as well as a complete fluid change amongst other serviceable items. In
2021 the complete cooling system was replaced existing out of radiator, oil cooler and cooling tubes.
This Pagoda is therefore in splendid mechanical health. As you may well expect this Pagoda delivers on
the driving front. It has fantastic roadholding capabilities which once more demonstrate the excellent
care lavished on this car. The bodywork is similarly in wonderful shape with nice and thin, correctly
aligned original panelwork. The paintwork has been resprayed for cosmetic reasons and remains in good
condition with few signs of use. The interior trim is of course pristine as is the hood. This Pagoda
comes well documented with a full car wallet and datenkarte. The latter confirms the car is a matching
numbers and colours example.
This is a Mercedes-Benz 280SL in overall top condition in striking livery.
