Beschreibung

The Mercedes SL of the W113 series, built between 1963 and 1971, was the successor to the 190 SL and introduced a new and more sober style away from the voluptuous 50s rounded shapes. Its very specifically shaped hardtop soon gave it the nickname Pagoda. Initially the W113 was offered with a 2.3 litre inline 6 cylinder engine with 150 horsepower. From December 1966 the new M129 engine with 2.5 litres capacity was used. The performance remained the same, but the torque received a welcome increase of 20 newtons. Already from January 1968, after only 5’196 250 SL’s had been built, the new M130 engine with now 2.8 litres and 170 horsepower and a further torque increase was used for this most popular cabriolet from Stuttgart. The example offered was delivered by Mercedes Hamburg on the 15th December 1967 and imported into Switzerland in 1970, where according to his registration, it was first registered in the Argovia Canton on the 9th of June of the same year. Then the history of the car becomes somewhat hazy until, in 2000, the SL was taken over by a enthusiast in the Solothurn Canton. In 2008 the SL finally arrived with the vendor. Equipped with a 4-speed manual gearbox and the option 417 (coupé-roof with rear seats instead of a soft top and storage compartment) the 250 was re-equipped by a unknown previous owner with a folding soft top including its storage compartment and repainted in the original red metallic 571. As can be seen with receipts since 2001, the pagoda received careful maintenance in the past 24 years and was restored as necessary. For example, at the end of 2008, the worn-out MB-Tex interior was recovered with real leather and new carpets were installed. In 2011 the hardtop was restored, in 2012 the floor section received a dry-ice treatment followed by restoration work and in 2014 the soft top was recovered with Sonnenland fabric. Receipts for around 60’000 francs for maintenance and restoration are available and will be supplied with the car. Due to lack of use the vendor has now decided to pass his rare 250 SL on to a next enthusiast. Currently the pretty cabriolet is in good to very good condition and is still equipped with its matching-numbers original engine and boasts a Mercedes-Benz classic certificate as well as a most recent Veteran MOT from May 2025.
