Beschreibung

"The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL with the 300 SL made history at the New York International Motor Sports Show in February 1954 by being the first new production Mercedes-Benz to be unveiled outside of Germany. The impression given by the 190 SL alongside the bigger 300 SL was neat, sporty and with dashing lines. This was the trait of Mercedes-Benz designers Karl Wilfret and Walter Hacket. Despite opinions, the statistics tell their own tale as between May 1955 and February 1963, 25,881 of these cars were produced, it was a huge success for Mercedes-Benz. Its engine boasted four inline cylinders with a chain driven overhead camshaft and two Solex 44PHH carburettors, delivering a respectable 108bhp for that era. The body was a monocoque design, welded to the shortened chassis of the type 180 saloon. A racing version with aluminium doors and a small windscreen was never produced although these parts could be ordered from the factory for weekend racing.
This lovely, UK supplied, right hand drive, matching numbers, 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL was purchased by the current owner in 2013 and while in his ownership he has cosmetically restored it to the highest of standards. The cream leather interior with the dark blue carpets was replaced five years ago by classic Mercedes specialists Red Castle Classics in South Wales. The chromework has been restored and re-plated by S&T in October 2021 while the car had new sill panels and was repainted in the original colour of Light Blue (DB334) and new blue soft top fitted, all being completed in March 2022. Other work carried out has included replacing the starter motor, fitting a new brake servo unit and replacing the tyres with Michelin X tyres. This lovely Mercedes 190 SL is supplied with a V5C registration document and the original handbooks which contain the chassis cards confirming the matching numbers status. A right hand drive Mercedes-Benz 190 SL remains a highly sought-after classic car among collectors and enthusiasts. Its timeless design, quality craftsmanship, and performance capabilities continue to captivate admirers today.
