Beschreibung

Due to tightening emissions regulations during the mid-1970s, Mercedes-Benz needed a way to lower the average fuel consumption across its model lineup. In 1978, they unveiled the 300 SD, a groundbreaking new car that was to be sold only in the North American markets. This variant of the W116 S-Class was the first sedan to be fitted with a turbo-diesel engine. This engine vastly improved fuel economy, and the 300 SD has become legendary for its durability and sensational build quality.

This remarkable 300 SD showed less than 26,000 miles when catalogued, an extremely low number given that the overwhelming majority of 300 SDs were driven hundreds of thousands of miles. Finished in the gorgeous color of Manganese Brown Metallic, this example is a true time capsule believed by the consignor to remain in extremely original condition. The interior features beautiful Bamboo leather with dark wood trim throughout and the Mercedes-Benz retains its original Becker Mexico cassette player.

Fitting for a car that has been so carefully preserved, the 300 SD is accompanied by its original sales paperwork, along with its impressive set of manuals, original data tag, first aid kit, and tool kit. Low mileage 300 SDs in fantastic colors are very difficult to find, and this example is sure to impress even the most knowledgeable Mercedes-Benz enthusiast.
