Life was so simple in the past. Take the Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL. It does exactly what says on the tin: a 4.5 litre V8 engine with the “S” standing for S-class, the “E” standing for Einspritzer (injector) and the “L” for long wheel base. What a delightful car! The “S” class has always been built like a tank and our car is no exception to the rule. Amazingly this car has only travelled 25,985 miles since it was first registered in 1974! There is nothing to give away the fact that this Red Metallic 571 S-class has blown out 46 birthday candles. She still drives as majestically as a new S-class, transporting her passengers in serenity and sumptuous luxury. This example was supplied to its first owner in the States in 1974, who kept it until 2019. The car’s history is particularly well documented. All insurance papers are there as well as a copy of the old title, many invoices from her American days and to top it all a complete car wallet containing the metal guarantee disc and Datenkarte. The car has a red metallic finish with white ivory leather upholstery. This is a most delightful combination that properly reflects the car’s elegance. With its 5.06 metre length the Mercedes-Benz is by any standard an enormous car. The M117 90 degree V8 engine develops 193 Ps and takes this 1,730 kg limousine to a top of 210 km/hr. The engine is coupled to a 3-speed automatic, perfectly matched to this limousine’s relaxed character. Naturally you will want for nothing when driving this S-class. The car has air-conditioning, sunroof, electric windows, comfortable seats cruise control and a Becker radio (together with its guarantee certificate!). This car is still the ultimate cruiser thanks to excellent maintenance. Because of its low-mileage it has never needed an engine overhaul. This Mercedes-Benz S-class is also a very interesting proposition as it has youngtimer tax relief (in the Netherlands).
