Beschreibung

The 230 S, also known as the Heckflosse, or “Fintail,” was built as a luxury edition of the Mercedes-Benz line designed to perform as effectively on the back roads as it did on the boulevards. The six-cylinder overhead-camshaft engine with its twin carburetors was tuned to produce a top speed of 109 mph – deemed at the time “Super” performance.

This 230 S must be considered one of the finest Fintails in existence. It presents today in what is believed by the consignor to be its original paint – White Grey (DB 158) – and, incredibly, the original tan cloth interior. Additionally, the chrome, wood, and glass are all remarkably well preserved.

The Mercedes-Benz was delivered on April 20, 1967, to its first owner, Karl Friedrich Kramer of Siegen, Germany. According to accompanying records, the car then went to Erhard Steuber in 1986, in nearby Netphen. Period documents indicate the car was shipped to Canada and arrived in the US in 2000. In the years since, the 230 S has been enjoyed by a handful of appreciative caretakers.

This stately 230 S is a rarity in the classic car market today, and its myriad intricate details and uncommon state of preservation are sure to be appreciated by any Mercedes-Benz enthusiast.
