Beschreibung
- One of only 708 examples of the 300 SE Cabriolet produced between 1962 and 1967
- Matching-numbers chassis and engine
- Left-hand-drive, European-market model with optional four-speed manual transmission
Mercedes-Benz’s W112 series premiered in March 1962 at the 32nd Geneva International Motor Show, marketed as the 300 SE and available in both Coupé and Cabriolet form. The Cabriolet was a technically advanced grand tourer wrapped in a modern design, penned by the legendary Paul Bracq. The pinnacle of the S-Class series, the 300 SE found favour among well-heeled buyers, particularly in the United States.
This example was delivered new to France on 27 April 1965, finished in elegant Papyrus White with a blue interior and black cloth soft-top. The sumptuous leather interior is complemented by a walnut dash, with a chrome frame surrounding the instrument panel. Externally, the opulent theme continues with a chrome beltline, headlight surrounds, wheel arch strips, and window mouldings. The 300 SE Cabriolet’s standard equipment includes power steering and a dual-circuit brake system with disc brakes all round, giving the car the stopping power to match its impressive power.
This 300 SE was owned for decades by the same keeper in France, prior to selling twice at auction in 2011 and once more in 2016. The car shows signs of restoration, thought to have been carried out prior to it crossing the block in 2016. Elegant, refined, and desirable, this majestic Mercedes-Benz is a fine example of a class-leading luxury cabriolet built when the Three-Pointed Star was at the height of its powers.
