Launched in 1979, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class (short for ‘Geländewagen’, meaning ‘off-road vehicle’) was initially designed as a robust military utility vehicle before winning over civilian customers looking for a reliable and prestigious vehicle. In the 1980s, Mercedes began offering more luxurious and comfortable versions of the G-Class, while retaining its exceptional off-road capabilities. Among the rarest and most iconic versions is the Cabriolet, a unique combination of ruggedness and elegance under the open sky.
The 230 GE, powered by a 2.3-litre 4-cylinder injection engine, develops around 125 horsepower, coupled here with an automatic transmission. Solid, reliable and relatively economical, this engine is perfectly suited to mixed road/off-road use.
The model we are offering is a 1989 230 GE Cabriolet. Originally a two-seater utility version, this G was delivered new to Lyon. Its service history shows that it was regularly serviced within the brand's network until the end of the 1990s, when its mileage was approaching 100,000 km. Thanks to its approved LPG system, this G now benefits from a desirable Crit'Air 1 sticker.
However, it has failed its MOT test due to, among other things, corrosion. The report is available on request.
An authentic and unique example, ideal for a discerning enthusiast looking for a G-Class convertible to restore, combining character, urban use (LPG/Crit'Air 1) and collector's potential.
