On 29 September 1988, during the Paris Motor Show, the importer Sonauto, representing AMG in Levallois, presented four AMG models including the 300 CE 3.2L. Customers who wanted an AMG model could order a Mercedes with the essential options such as an automatic gearbox. Once the car arrived at Levallois, the engine and gearbox were dismantled and shipped to AMG Affalterbach. During this time, Sonauto installed the AMG body parts, rims, brakes, and suspensions.
The 300 CE that we are offering was delivered new in France on 14 September 1988, two weeks before the opening of the Paris Motor Show and has the AMG identification plate which indicates that this is the very first C124 with the 3.2L AMG engine and would be the presentation model. It features specific AMG elements such as the body-coloured grille, the bumpers, the rims, the steering wheel, the fittings in precious wood and the speedometer graduated up to 300 km/h!
The 300 CE coupé is already a collector's item and brilliantly interprets the concept of the pillarless coupé with a more modern line than that of the SEC. The version prepared by AMG is a rarity, with less than 60 made, and as this is the very first, it is an integral part of the history of the tuning legend.
