To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' Milan event, 22 May 2025.
- One of only 100 examples produced; firmly within the most exclusive echelon of sought-after AMG models
- Built by Mercedes-Benz racing partner HWA AG
- Specified in Brilliant Silver Metallic over Anthracite leather
- German-market car, greatly enjoyed by the consignor since their purchase in 2006
- As close as one can get to a road-going, championship-winning DTM race car
The CLK DTM AMG is without doubt the most desirable variant of Mercedes-Benz’s C209 platform. Built to celebrate Bernd Schneider's 2003 DTM championship title win, the CLK DTM AMG was as close to his race car as customers could get while still being able to drive their new Mercedes-Benz on the road. Each of the 180 DTM examples, comprising 100 coupés and 80 cabriolets, were specially assembled by HWA AG—Schneider’s race team that was created by Hans Werner Aufrecht, original founder of AMG.
Powered by a 5.4-litre supercharged V-8 producing 582 horsepower and mated to a SpeedShift 5G-Tronic automatic transmission, the CLK DTM AMG is capable of smoking its tyres well into third gear, sprinting to 100 km/h in just four seconds and on to a top speed of 321 km/h.
This German-market example was completed in February 2005. Clad in the Mercedes-Benz racing colour of Brilliant Silver Metallic, the car’s interior is trimmed with Anthracite leather, black Alcantara, and carbon fibre trim. This CLK DTM has remained in Germany since new and was acquired by the consignor from its original owner during March 2006.
The accompanying service book indicates regular maintenance at authorised Mercedes-Benz service facilities. Notably, a June 2011 service entry shows that this CLK DTM had accrued just 22 kilometres from new. In recent years, the consignor has come to greatly enjoy the car’s exciting dynamics. This is evidenced by the fact that this extremely limited-production coupé now displays 49,395 kilometres on its odometer.
AMG models of this era are rising in popularity, finally gaining well-deserved recognition for the exquisite and historically important machines that they are—offering an experience as close as one can get to a championship-winning DTM race car, but with the benefit of being certified for road use.
