GENERAL

This W111 280SE 3.5 Coupe was originally sold to sunny California and exported into Belgium in 2007.

Upon its arrival, the car’s body was in very good shape, but the years of Californian sun had taken their toll on the paintwork and interior. The first European owner decided to put things right and started to work on the car.

Since he didn’t have the time to complete the work, he sold the car on to the next Belgium owner after a few years.

The next owner decided to take the car’s restoration to another level, since the previous work had been carried out to a very high standard already. The body shell had never been welded, which was the deciding factor for the new owner to try and bring the restoration work to a concourse level.

He finished the car to a very high standard with the intention to keep it mainly for holiday getaways. He took his Merc out on a few trips, but unfortunately, other priorities came across his path, which is why he’s now selling reluctantly.

EXTERIOR

The paintwork is in showroom condition, as are the chrome bumpers and rubber trim. The last owner replaced all seals and weather stripping by original genuine Mercedes parts, which cost him a small fortune.

The electric sunroof and electric windows have been completely rebuilt and are working perfectly. Pleasant surprises like these make the car truly enjoyable to use.

The chrome plating has been restored to a very high standard, which really shows and makes for a gorgeous contrast with the exterior paint.

The glass on the car looks very neat. The windscreen and rear-heated window are new. These are known to be very hard to find and expensive items. No expenses have been spared to make this car as fresh and correct looking as possible.

The wheels are spotless and are shodded with new tires.

INTERIOR

Upon opening the door, you are greeted by the smell of new Mercedes leather.

The interior has been completely retrimmed in Ivory white leather, with the correct embossed pattern in the seats and armrests..

The wooden veneers are restored by a specialized company and gleam like the day the car came out of the factory almost 50 years ago.

A new vintage look radio with USB, Bluetooth, DAB-antenna and handsfree compatibility is installed, which makes the car a very pleasant daily driver.

The instruments are fully rebuilt and all function as they should. A new headliner with the correct perforation and draft excluders has been fitted.

ENGINE

The original 3.5 litre V8 is mated to an automatic transmission and has been fully rebuilt. It starts up right away, runs smoothly and doesn’t produce any strange noises.

All the engine ancillaries like the starter motor, alternator, waterpump, power-steering system and radiator were either replaced by new genuine parts or rebuilt.

The air conditioning system has been completely renewed in July 2019 and works perfectly.

The next owner decided to take the car’s restoration to another level, since the previous work had been carried out to a very high standard already. The body shell had never been welded, which was the deciding factor for the new owner to try and bring the restoration work to a concourse level.

BODY

The undercarriage of the car is showing areas where the original undercoating is still visible. There is no rust whatsoever.

The suspension bushings, flexible hoses, etc. have all been renewed. The petrol tank and exhaust are in very good condition.

PAPER TRAIL

The car comes with Belgium registration documents and a car pass.
