Combining the latest in pioneering automotive technology and decades of racing experience, each McLaren that leaves Woking provides a uniquely thrilling experience. For the customer looking to go even further, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) provide a virtually endless list of customization options, and for very few of their most loyal clientele, completely bespoke models. These unique vehicles are dispatched around the world to McLaren's most important VVIP customers and in most cases, find a home residing alongside the likes of the legendary McLaren F1. After experiencing tremendous success with their revolutionary P11 platform, McLaren and MSO would employ all lessons learned to create an ultimate iteration, the MSO HS.
The perfect sendoff to their highly successful P11 platform, the McLaren MSO HS (High Sport), was available to just 25 fortunate customers, all of which were delivered with unique specifications. Based upon the already stellar, 675LT 'Super Series' chassis, the MSO HS utilized a redesigned carbon fiber body to offer 40 kg of weight saving from the already featherlite 675LT. Equipped with an aerodynamically redesigned front end with aggressive carbon fiber canards and an active-rear rear wing provide the MSO HS with incredible levels of downforce at speed. Taking inspiration from the legendary F1, the MSO HS features an incorporated roof scoop serving as a functional air-intake and providing incredible auditory feedback situated directly atop the vehicle's occupants.
Powered by an upgraded version of McLaren's M838TL 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8, the MSO HS produces 688 horsepower throughout its impressive powerband beginning at just 3,000 rpm. Situated below a lightweight polycarbonate engine cover, this engine produces an intoxicating exhaust note through the forged titanium exhaust. Paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, shifts occur instantaneously resulting in a near seamless transfer of power resulting in astonishing acceleration. Similar to the McLaren F1, this MSO HS features an engine bay lined in 24-carat gold, a beautiful, efficient and lightweight heat reflectant .
A highly optioned example, this MSO HS is clothed in a stunning and extremely rare full exposed carbon fiber body. Noted as an homage car to McLaren P1 #168 and McLaren Senna #68, these vehicles feature nearly identical specifications ordered from a singular owner. Carefully selected red brake calipers are the perfect complement to an exterior otherwise covered from wiper cover to center cap in gorgeous carbon fiber. Equipped with lightweight carbon fiber bucket seats trimmed in perforated leather with Red stitching and contrasting Red seat belts, this interior also features Red painted drive mode controls. Brimming with carbon fiber trim, this MSO HS allows for excellent driver development thanks to the track telemetry package providing both hard data and video feedback.
Offered with just 75 miles at the time of cataloging, this highly unique McLaren is in 'just out of the box' condition having remained with its original owner in southern California throughout the past seven years in a collection of other highly optioned and collectible supercars. One of only 7 delivered new to the United States, the McLaren 688 MSO HS remains among the most exclusive offerings to have ever emerged from Woking and this example, chassis number 16, one of the best optioned, well specified examples of the breed in the world.
