Giugiario's design of the Ghibli while at Ghia was simply stunning. Introduced at the 1966 Turin Motor Show, this sophisticated model represented the ultimate achievement of front-engined V8 Maserati cars, which enabled the brand to regain a strong position in the Grand Touring car market. This was achievable thanks to its incredible four-shaft engine designed by Giulio Alfieri; powerful, resilient and with its 4.9-litre version, this Ghibli is able to reach 270 km/h. Cars capable of reaching such speeds were rare at that time. Born before the oil crisis and widespread speed limits, it still reflects the years of carelessness when you could brag without blushing about high-speed "averages" on open roads.
This particular example came out the factory on the 7th June 1971, it is fitted with a 5-speed gearbox, power steering and the most desirable Ghibli engine, the 4.9-litre SS version producing 335 hp as opposed to the 4.7-litre producing 310 hp. It was delivered new in Miami in the United States in red with white leather interior. The car was acquired by the current owner from Gallery Brummen in Holland and entrusted to Cecil Cars for its restoration. The bodywork was stripped there in 2020, redone with soft solder and repainted. As for the interior, all beige carpets have been changed and the beige leather upholstery refurbished. The engine was fully serviced, including a change of all fluids, some hoses, the water pump, pistons, liners, clutch, distribution… In other words, a total of approximately €60,000 was spent to turn this Ghibli into a little gem. This car offers the exceptional feeling of driving one of the most fantastic GT cars. Considering its performance and its design, the Maserati Ghibli is a car at a particularly reasonable price, a circumstance which could eventually change knowing that it was the competitor of the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona. It is worth taking advantage of this opportunity, especially when coming across such an example.
