You would have to look extremely long and hard, even if you can find one. It is quite some time that we have seen such a fine Maserati Ghibli. This “Verder Gemma” example was initially supplied by the West Nyack, New york State, the USA based Grossman Motor Car Corporation on the 25th November 1970. It still bears the same colour finish it left the factory with. Since that day it has only clocked up just over 14,000 miles. The Maserati Ghibli is an absolute master piece by the hand of a 32 year old Giorgetto Giugiaro whilst working for the Ghia design house. The car has fantastic pop-up headlights, a gorgeous long sharks nose and a dry-sump 4.7 litre V8 engine. The Ghibli is a 2+2 Grand Tourer with fantastic road holding properties. People would be forgiven for believing that the performance is more akin to an airplane. Even today, the Ghibli is still considered to be a very fast car. Zero to 100km/hr takes just 6.8 seconds with a top of an impressive 250 km/hr. According to connoisseurs the Ghibli stood in the shadow of the Ferrari Daytona in the 70’s. There was always a bit of rivalry of “Daytona vs Ghibli”. Today those sentiments are no longer relevant, everyone values the Maserati Ghibli’s true merits: a sublimely fast, drop-dead gorgeous Grand Tourer. This Ghibli found its way to Switzerland in 2004 with just 10,310 miles on the clock. The first Swiss owner kept it until he sold it onto German collector in 2006 with just 13,000 miles on the clock. Between 2004-2006 the car was extensively maintained and serviced. Invoices relating to this have been kept with the car. The car stands on lovely Campagnolo wheels with good tyres. The green paintwork has been very well cared for. The lovely original bodywork has nice and thin, correctly aligned panelwork. The well fitting brightwork is in fine original condition. Over the years the leather upholstery has developed a lovely patina, elevating the car’s authenticity to an even higher level. The wooden steering wheel and original carpets are also in a good state. Mechanically this Maserati is sound. The 5-speed ZF transmission is precise, contributing to this Maserati Ghibli’s fantastic driving properties. Now we come to the absolute star of this event: the fantastic quad-cam, dry-sump, 310 Hp strong V8 Maserati engine. It has 4 twin Webers and sounds fantastic. There is nothing that does not please in this Maserati Ghibli; be it the great colour scheme, the superbly original cabin or its fine provenance.
