Beschreibung

Deceptively comfortable, sophisticated, and usable, Maserati’s mid-engine Bora derived its exotic name from the notoriously fierce northern Adriatic wind currents and featured gorgeous Giorgetto Giugiaro-designed bodywork. Masterfully engineered by Giulio Alfieri, the Bora was Maserati’s first monocoque-based road car, and incorporated Citroën’s revolutionary high-pressure hydropneumatic system, independent suspension, and the DOHC V-8 engine – from Maserati’s Indy – mated to a ZF five-speed rear transaxle. Only 564 Boras were built from 1971 to 1978, including this example, one of just 275 top-specification, 4.9-liter models.

This original US-specification Maserati Bora 4.9 was built in May 1973, originally finished in Red over Black leather. The Bora was delivered via Maserati Automobiles Inc., the Los Angeles-area distributor. While its early history is unknown, in the 2000s, the Maserati was acquired by enthusiast Tim Wyman of British Columbia, Canada. Mr. Wyman commissioned 360 Fabrication Inc. of Abbotsford, to carry out a well-documented restoration, which was completed in 2009, and included a refinish in its current, striking Medium Blue Metallic. Retaining its matching-numbers engine and featuring four Weber twin-choke carburetors, this handsome Bora 4.9 comes with its Maserati Classiche, owner’s manual, a wealth of restoration records, tools, and a roadside jack. An outstanding, all-around performer and design statement, this 1973 Maserati Bora 4.9 is a sophisticated classic supercar in every respect.
