Direct evolution of the “3200 GT”, of which it retains, in broad terms, only the stylistic approach, this “Coupé” is the car of the true Maserati relaunch: to discover it in every detail, we decidedly put it to the whip, driving it long on the road and on the track.

The car is powered by a generous 4.2-liter V8 engine with 287 kW-390 hp at 7000 rpm, with a maximum torque of 451 Nm at 4500 rpm, combined with the “Cambiocorsa” six-speed electro-actuated transmission. In the cockpit, let’s face it immediately, because it is one of the real surprises of the test, you are comfortable. This is one of the few true coupes to offer space for four people – it feels good in the back too.

Turning to more meaningful information for such a car, on the road (and on the track) the “Coupé” is truly exciting. The grip is always high, quick cornering and traction guaranteed by the effective Asr traction control (standard). The Esp is not even available for a fee, but it does not seem necessary, given the good response of the Maserati sports car even to the most abrupt demands. The strong point, however, is the engine: powerful, very ready, it has an exciting sound and allows the Trident car to achieve remarkable times in acceleration and recovery.

Obviously, these performances correspond to equally noteworthy consumption: the V8 is really thirsty and in normal use it is difficult to travel more than 5-6 kilometers with a liter of fuel. Fortunately, the almost 90-liter tank partially compensates for this deficiency, guaranteeing a good driving range.

Diretta evoluzione della “3200 GT”, di cui conserva, a grandi linee, solo l’impostazione stilistica, questa “Coupé” è l’auto del vero rilancio Maserati: per scoprirla in ogni dettaglio, l’abbiamo messa decisamente alla frusta, guidandola a lungo su strada e in pista.

La vettura è spinta da un generoso motore V8 di 4.2 litri da 287 kW-390 CV a 7000 giri al minuto, con una coppia massima di 451 Nm a 4500 giri, abbinato alla trasmissione “Cambiocorsa”, elettroattuata a sei rapporti. Nell’abitacolo, diciamolo subito, perché è una delle vere sorprese del test, si sta comodi. Questa è una fra le poche coupé vere a offrire spazio per quattro persone: si sta bene anche dietro.

Passando a informazioni più significative per un’auto del genere, su strada (e in pista) la “Coupé” è davvero entusiasmante. La tenuta è sempre elevata, l’inserimento in curva rapido e la motricità garantita dall’efficace controllo della trazione Asr (di serie). L’Esp non è disponibile neppure a pagamento, ma non pare necessario, vista la buona risposta della sportiva Maserati anche alle sollecitazioni più brusche. Il pezzo forte, comunque, è il propulsore: potente, prontissimo, ha una sonorità emozionante e permette alla vettura del Tridente di spuntare tempi notevoli in accelerazione e ripresa.

Ovvio che a queste prestazioni corrispondano consumi altrettanto degni di nota: il V8 è davvero assetato e nell’uso normale è difficile riuscire a percorrere più di 5-6 chilometri con un litro di carburante. Fortunatamente, il serbatoio di quasi 90 litri sopperisce in parte a questa carenza, garantendo una buona autonomia di marcia.
