Beschreibung

The Series III Land Rover was introduced in 1971, bringing several improvements to the familiar Series II design. These included a revised dashboard, improved instrumentation and a fully synchromesh gearbox, while retaining the rugged separate chassis, selectable four-wheel drive and unmistakable styling that had already made the Land Rover a worldwide success.

First registered in 1978, this example is an attractive and comparatively rare factory-built 88-inch Station Wagon. The short-wheelbase Station Wagon differed from the more utilitarian models through additional seating, improved trim and greater sound insulation, making it a more comfortable and versatile proposition. Original factory Station Wagons are now particularly sought after by collectors.

Displaying approximately 46,000 miles, this example is accompanied by an extensive service history which reportedly includes a detailed mileage log documenting its use. More recently, it was selected for restoration by renowned television presenter and automotive craftsman Ant Anstead and his team for the television programme The Naked Mechanic. The restoration was extensive, with the chassis thoroughly cleaned, repaired where required and repainted. A new bulkhead was installed, together with replacement footwells on both sides and a new floor within the rear tub. Particular attention was paid to the bulkhead, which was finished by a specialist painter to complement the colour and established patina of the original bodywork.

Mechanical recommissioning included new fuel and brake lines, a complete fluid change and an overhaul of the suspension with replacement shock absorbers. The Land Rover is also equipped with the desirable overdrive gearbox option and period-correct Fairey freewheeling front hubs, improving its suitability for longer journeys and regular use.

Since being purchased following its television restoration, the Land Rover has benefited from further cosmetic painting, wheels refurbed and five new tyres enhancing its overall presentation while retaining the purposeful character associated with the model. Combining desirable factory Station Wagon specification, documented low mileage and interesting television provenance, this restored Series III represents an appealing opportunity to acquire a highly usable example of one of Britain's most recognisable vehicles.
