Land Rover Range Rover: the origins of the myth
The first Land Rover Range Rovers were launched on the market in 1970. There are few specimens but already characterized by the common denominator that will lead the Range Rover to success: a sporty off-road character combined with the comfort and habitability of luxury cars. The combination is aided by a powerful Buick all-wheel drive V8 engine. Despite the sedan interior fittings, the Land Rover Range Rover does not deny its off-road nature and wins the Dakar Rally in the 1979 and 1981 editions.

Evolution takes its course and the Land Rover Range Rover has 5 doors (initially 3), the injection engine and automatic transmission. 1986 arrives and the range is enriched with a brilliant Turbodiesel 2400 which achieves the record of maximum speed among the diesel engines then existing. Thanks to the new turbodiesel and the off-road spirit, the Land Rover Range Rover faces and wins one of the toughest off-road competitions in the steep Madacascar scenario: the Camel Trophy. Also in 1987, the Land Rover Range Rover lands on the stars and stripes market; given the admiration of Americans for high-level off-road vehicles, a substantial slice of enthusiasts is immediately cut out. The success is so great that the Land Rover of North America division is born.

The Land Rover Range Rover becomes legend
1988 is the year of consecration to luxury. The manufacturers, after realizing that the Land Rover Range Rover is chosen by customers as an alternative to luxury cars, are focusing on a comfortable interior and top-quality equipment. Electric sunroof, leather seats, automatic transmission and air conditioning are the standard features of the Land Rover Range Rover. From now on the off-road imagery will never be the same again.

Since 1994 it has been called the Range Rover Classic to distinguish it from the new series marketed in the same year. The Range Rover Classic took leave with all honors in 1996, with the merit of having given birth to a new concept of car: the SUV.Range Rover Classic 3p

I primi Range Rover Land Rover furono lanciati sul mercato nel 1970. Arriva il 1986 e la gamma si arricchisce di un brillante Turbodiesel 2400 che raggiunge il record di velocità massima tra i motori diesel esistenti. Grazie al nuovo turbodiesel e allo spirito fuoristrada, la Land Rover Range Rover affronta e vince una delle competizioni fuoristrada più difficili nel ripido scenario di Madacascar: il Camel Trophy. Sempre nel 1987, la Range Rover Land Rover sbarca sul mercato a stelle e strisce; data l’ammirazione degli americani per i fuoristrada di alto livello, viene immediatamente tagliata fuori una fetta sostanziale di appassionati. Il successo è così grande che nasce la divisione Land Rover del Nord America.

La Land Rover Range Rover diventa leggenda
Il 1988 è l’anno della consacrazione al lusso. I produttori, dopo aver capito che la Land Rover Range Rover è stata scelta dai clienti come alternativa alle auto di lusso, si stanno concentrando su interni confortevoli e attrezzature di alta qualità. Tetto apribile elettrico, sedili in pelle, cambio automatico e aria condizionata sono le caratteristiche standard della Land Rover Range Rover. D’ora in poi le immagini off-road non saranno più le stesse.

Dal 1994 è stato chiamato Range Rover Classic per distinguerlo dalla nuova serie commercializzata nello stesso anno. La Range Rover Classic prese congedo con tutti gli onori nel 1996, con il merito di aver dato alla luce un nuovo concetto di auto: il SUV.Range Rover Classic 3p
