The Defender has always been defined by its remarkable combination of ruggedness, practicality and sheer character, but examples with genuine provenance, exceptionally low mileage and significant recent investment are increasingly difficult to find. This 1999 Land Rover Defender TD5 110 12 Seat is very much one such example.
Finished in desirable Java Black Metallic with a classic Grey Techno Cloth interior, it has covered just 58,900 warranted miles from new and has effectively enjoyed a single keeper throughout its life, having originally been registered to the present custodian's company before ownership was transferred into his current company's name. Accompanying the vehicle is an impressive history file documenting its life and maintenance.
For much of its existence, the Defender has enjoyed a particularly interesting role, principally being employed to tow a diver re-compression chamber in and around Oban, Scotland. The need for life-saving reliability meant that it was maintained to exceptionally high standards throughout its life, with expense seemingly no object when required.
Just 4,000 miles ago, it was entrusted to a well-known Defender specialist in East Yorkshire for an extensive restoration programme costing in excess of £23,000. This included the installation of a new galvanised chassis, replacement front bulkhead and rear crossmember, together with a host of further mechanical and structural improvements, ensuring that this Defender's renowned durability is backed by substantial recent investment.
The expenditure continued into 2026, with more than £7,500 spent on servicing, MOT preparation and cosmetic improvements. The result is a highly usable and impressively presented Defender, accompanied by a fresh MOT certificate valid until September 2027.
Now offered for sale solely due to the retirement of its long-term owner, this is certainly not an average Defender. Its exceptional provenance, unusually low warranted mileage, specialist restoration and significant recent expenditure combine to make it a particularly compelling example of Land Rover's enduring workhorse.
