Beschreibung

Among the most sought-after dual-purpose utility vehicles ever built, the legendary Land Rover 90 and 110 models have spanned decades of production meeting a wide range of needs. Be it trekking through frozen Arctic tundra, bogging through the arid African deserts, or snaking the vast Australian outback, the Defender has met the challenge, spawning an entire genre of Sport Utility Vehicles that followed in the tracks of these legendary icons.

The Defender 110, first offered in 1983. Utilized the longer, more comfortable 110” wheelbase. Factory built examples included external and internal roll cages, aluminum body work, 16” alloy wheels, disc brakes, and convenience options including factory stereos and air conditioning. Equipped with four-wheel drive via a five-speed manual synchromesh gearbox and dual-range transfer case, initial market interest was high, but recent years have called upon a new generation of enthusiasts attracted to the powerful visual and mechanical presence the Defender still conveys today.

This two-door Pick-Up example was originally delivered to Europe where it served as a European military service vehicle. Eventually imported to the US and refurbished by a noted company in Indiana specializing in restorations for Land Rovers, the owner at that time reportedly spent over $30k in restoration services in order to complete the car to his standards. A few years after the refurbishment was completed, this Defender was sold to the current owner, a resident of Washington State, who enlisted local Land Rover experts to refine the running gear and operational systems, spending an additional $5k primarily on mechanical features. In addition to being the sporty and spacious Pick-Up trunk variant, this truck is optioned with a Safety Devices Roll Cage, new canvas panels, Wolf Wheels, and a new set of BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A K02 tires. Currently showing 150,745 kilometers on the speedometer, this Defender 110 is rugged and ready for further enjoyable excursions, camping, or celebrating parking space victories by sheer intimidation.

Today this Defender presents as a classic trooper, perfect for who celebrate the authentic and original design, emboldened by the rugged utilitarian aesthetics of these vehicles. The satin brown paint is purposeful, durable, and accented by satin black trim features. The body panels retain original details including the distinctive slotted grille, drop-down tailgate, round rear lights, recessed door latches, and satin black front fender diamond plate trim. The stance is tall, confident, and ready to clear fast water streams, especially perched on the 16” satin black steel wheels wearing new BF Goodrich tires. The commanding presence is firmly anchored by durable 4-wheel drive, heavy duty suspension, disc brakes all around, and a diesel drivetrain. Hinged door side storage bins are a handy accessory for tools, climbing rope, or additional gear. While exterior body modifications have been minor, the rugged satin black wheel arches and black trim add an aggressive touch to the spartan two-door truck package that offers plenty of room for family adventures, camping, and off-road explorations.

The interior eschews any signs of modern SUV pampering or fussiness, presenting a proud balance of durable materials, purposeful features, and black molded trim, nodding to convenience with two cup-holders nestled in the center storage console. Recently reupholstered front seats use the correct textured vinyl with horizontal pleated inserts, while the rear passenger seating along the longitudinal bed sides is correctly finished with easy to clean, smooth vinyl and bead-edged piping. The long metal-boxed bed is suitable for hauling large items while still offering space for four or more rear occupants. Passengers in the rear area benefit from a full-length canvas cover that spans the entire cabin, which stretches over multiple over-bar protective roll hoops spanning the length of the passenger compartment and anchoring to the main cargo box rail ends. Rear passengers can opt for inclement city weather protection or avoid territorial elephant trunk spray by unstrapping and rolling down the canvas trimmed clear plastic side curtains.

The engine compartment is representative of the miles this Land Rover has dutifully covered under previous and current ownership. Though not detailed for show, the engine starts, runs, and performs as expected, in keeping with the purposeful cosmetic presentation of this Pick-Up. The underside reveals a chassis consistent with use typically found in vehicles of this age. The frame members, suspension components, and other mechanical systems all show signs of use, but have no evidence of structural compromise or corrosion penetration. The suspension, disc brakes at all four corners, and Goodrich tires are perfectly suited to the character of this Defender – unpretentious and ready to use.

For anyone seeking a rugged and durable example of the Land Rover Defender 110 Pick-Up featuring a few upgrades, selective refurbishment, and suited for a wide range of uses, this Defender 110 is ready for an enthusiast seeking outdoor adventure and experiences as a true Defender of the original purpose celebrated by the millions of miles and decades of use these Land Rovers have willingly delivered.
