Beschreibung

In 1922, Vincenzo Lancia unveiled the Lambda, a revolutionary new automobile that would come to be regarded as his masterpiece. Individually, the car’s clever monocoque chassis, independent sliding-pillar front suspension, and narrow-angle V-4 engine are all notable production-car firsts, but it was the wholeness of the Lambda’s design – the fact that it was engineered as a complete and uncompromising machine from start to finish – that gave the Lancia its singular character. This combination also made it an extremely satisfying car to drive – a generation ahead of its rivals in terms of handling, roadholding, and braking.

In December 1924, this Lambda, a desirable 3rd Series Torpédo, was sold new to its first owner, Umberto Fasciolo of Montevideo, Uruguay. It remained Sig. Fasciolo’s property until his death in 1975. After ownership passed to his son, the Lambda was imported to the US, where it was displayed for several years in the Briggs Cunningham Automotive Museum in California. Subsequent owners include noted Lancia collectors Anthony MacLean and Lukas Hüni. While in his hands, Mr. Hüni commissioned the esteemed vintage car specialist Arthur Archer to perform a complete restoration executed to the highest standards, while taking great pains to preserve original details and finishes wherever possible, including the wonderfully patinated original upholstery. The results speak for themselves: today, this Lambda is widely regarded to be one of the very best examples of its breed and a delight to drive.
