Beschreibung

"The Lancia Flaminia was launched in 1957 and was the replacement for the Aurelia. It was available throughout its production as a saloon (Berlina), coupé, and cabriolet. The hand-crafted, aluminium bodied cabriolet, GT and GTL coupés from Touring of Milan were considerably more expensive than the Berlina models but the designs epitomised the style and design flair of the finest motoring designers of their time. With double wishbones, coil springs and shock absorbers featuring on the new model, the car’s performance was nimble and the ride comfort was superior against many of its rivals. The Flaminia’s engine was a continuation of the Aurelia power unit and world’s first production V6. Mounted longitudinally, the power was delivered via a rear mounted four-speed transaxle. We are pleased to offer this 1959 example of the Touring built Flaminia GT that was originally supplied to Libya as a 2500cc GT that same year. The car was subsequently imported into the UK in August 1970. Today, this Lancia presents very well. In 2010, the Flaminia was completely stripped and shipped to Omicron, the renowned Lancia specialists who carried out a comprehensive body/chassis rebuild, ensuring all shut lines were perfectly fitted. The coachwork was finished to a high standard in Lancia Lord Blue and is beautifully complemented by the striking red interior. Under the current ownership, the aim was to make a reliable long distance touring car. A 2.8 litre engine and transaxle replaced the original 2.5 litre, V6 engine and transaxle; the original units are included and will be available to be collected from the vendor by a new owner. The vendor informs us that the 2.8 litre engine has been rebuilt by Brian Randall Engineering and is virtually indistinguishable from the original unit and provides extra torque, a benefit whilst long distance touring. Further works have included; Koni adjustable shock absorbers, wiring loom, steering joints, overhauled brake calipers, brake servo, copper brake pipes, flexible brake hoses, clutch, a reupholstered interior including correct coloured carpets and red leather seats, headlining and new window rubbers. In addition, the triple Weber carburettors were serviced and balanced by Omicron whilst new stainless steel items included an exhaust and bumpers front and rear. This Flaminia GT has been well and sympathetically maintained and comes with an extensive file of works and parts. Also included is a UK V5 registration document and Libyan papers from its early life. In 2018, this Flaminia completed the Fourges Brittany rally and was exhibited at the 'Classics by the Lake' meeting where it received the best post-war award. Since 1970, when the Flaminia was imported into the UK, it has only covered in the region of 2,000 miles. Flaunted by the rich and famous during the 1950s and 1960s, these handcrafted grand tourers are still very capable motor cars today. Imagine touring the Côte d’Azur, what a breeze!"
