Lancia’s ingenious Aurelia inspired from the moment of its launch in 1950. Endowed with advanced features ranging from a V-6 engine with inline valves to an innovative transaxle and unitary body construction, even in four-door launch configuration the model represented the cutting edge of production car technology. More sporting iterations soon followed, led by the elegant and rakish B20 GT Coupé, but it was only when the spotlight fell on the B24S Spider in 1954 that the Aurelia platform unlocked its full potential.

Elegant and beautifully proportioned, the Pinin Farina-designed Spider brought a welcome dash of glamour to the Aurelia range and the model soon become synonymous with La Dolce Vita. Impossibly pretty, the B24S featured unique styling cues including a single-piece wraparound windscreen, flamboyant split bumpers, and side screens. The car proved a hit in the US market, with the lion’s share of production leaving Pinin Farina’s Corso Trapani works configured in left-hand drive and destined for foreign shores.

Chassis 1062 is one of just 181 Aurelia B24S Spiders built in 1955, rolling off the production line on 14 June that year. Finished in Rosso over a Pelle Chiara interior, the striking sports car was registered to its first owner on 18 June 1955. In the early-1970s, the Lancia was the first car to be bought by The Piccolo Collection. The consignor instructed light renovation work before it was finally registered for the road on 22 October 1975, remaining in the care of the Piccolo family until today, five decades later.

Beautifully preserved, this storied Lancia retains its original matching-numbers chassis, engine, body, differential, front suspension, and steering box, as confirmed by an accompanying Lancia Certificate of Authenticity. It was regularly shown by the current owner, making appearances at Le Bellissime Italiane in Calenzano in 2012, and at the Concorso Internazionale di Eleganza Automobili di Montecatini Terme in 2018.

Today, chassis 1062 presents as a highly original example of one of Lancia’s greatest ever sports cars, and an increasingly desirable icon of a the most glamorous era of Italian design. A golden ticket to the world’s top driving events, this Aurelia B24S Spider is eligible for several leading tours and rallies, including the Mille Miglia.
