The small Lancia Augusta was first shown to the public at the 1932 Paris Salon as a small saloon. It followed the example of its bigger and more prestigious stablemates such as the Lambda and Dilambda, featuring the same load-bearing body principle. The engine was of a V4 cylinder design with a displacement of 1,194cc, producing some 35bhp at 4,000rpm, with power transmitted via a four speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels. Period road tests in Italy, as well as in Great Britain, praised this little saloon, with The Autocar describing it in 1934 as “An excellent small four”.
In the right hands the Augusta even proved to be an astonishing performer in various competitions, such as the 1936 Targa Florio in which the first four places were all taken by the diminutive Lancia. The prev
