At its unveiling at the 1968 Geneva Show, the Lamborghini Espada caused a sensation. Derived from the spectacular Marzal, unveiled the year earlier, this four-seater GT reflected the impressive engineering ability of Gianpaolo Dallara and Paolo Stanzanin, with the credit of the engine going to Giotto Bizzarrini. But the extraordinary design was the work of Marcello Gandini. With such famous names associated with the birth of the Espada, it was a great family supercar.
Registered for the first time on 24 April 1969, the car was registered in the Loire region before being sold in 1999 to a Mr Pierra. As can be seen from the invoices in the file dating back to 1998, numerous works were carried out. In 2009, when the matching numbers car had 9,064 km on the odometer, the clutch and shock absorbers were changed at P3 Automobiles.
In 2013, it was acquired by a Lamborghini collector who had long been in search of a series 1 Espada. He decided to continue the restoration of the car: refection of the body and the engine compartment by Établissements Martin in Damery, the Marne region (photo folder); preservation of the original interior, with only light patina, as it was possible to retain it without even re-dyeing. TS Automobiles in Villeneuve-le-Roi were in charge of the reassembling and the general adjustments: replacement of gaskets and the carpet; carburation and engine setting; control of the function of the brakes and the electricals. A bill totaling 15,000 reflects this work.
Today, the car is in superb condition, still in running-in procedure, with beautiful original upholstery. It is rare that such a GT can take four people with as much ease, thanks to its spacious cabin and its 4-liter V12 and 325bhp. This is all the more impressive considering the true nature of this futuristic spaceship and the closeness of the design with the original space-age Marzal concept and the Espada Series 1.
