Beschreibung

The Lamborghini 400GT is one of the most elegant and refined grand tourers of the 1960s, representing the early spirit of Lamborghini: sophisticated engineering, distinctive Italian design, and effortless V12 performance. As the direct evolution of the 350GT, the 400GT combined daily usability with high-speed touring capability, making it a true gentleman’s GT. With only a limited number ever built, it stands today as a rare and desirable piece of Lamborghini’s formative legacy.
Offered for sale is a beautifully preserved and extensively documented Lamborghini 400GT 2+2, chassis number 1063, with engine number 1052. This car was delivered new on July 22, 1967, by the official Lamborghini dealer Kaplan in New York. It retains its matching numbers and was originally finished in the elegant factory combination of Blue Notte exterior over a Senape leather interior.

During its time in the United States, the car was repainted in black and the interior was changed to red. In the 1990s, it returned to Europe via the UK and was sold on March 26, 1994, to a new owner. A first restoration was undertaken, focusing on the structural integrity of the vehicle, including rust removal and refurbishment of the chassis, engine, and suspension.

In 2013, the car was sold by the renowned classic car specialist Steenbuck in Lübberstedt to its most recent owner. A second, comprehensive restoration was immediately commissioned to return the car to its original specification. The exterior was professionally refinished in Blue Notte, and the interior was reupholstered in the correct Senape leather, both restored to exact factory standards.

Mechanically, the car was fully overhauled and inspected by respected Lamborghini expert Wolfgang Instinski in Germany. The engine, gearbox, and suspension were thoroughly serviced, ensuring excellent performance and reliability. Importantly, the engine was not cosmetically restored and retains its original appearance with a well-preserved patina, reflecting the authenticity of the car. Similarly, the steering wheel remains in its factory-original condition, offering a genuine connection to the car’s heritage and history.

The vehicle’s history from 1994 to the present is fully documented. A complete file of invoices, restoration records, and extensive photographic documentation accompanies the car. In 2023, this exceptional 400GT was awarded “Best of Show” at the prestigious Concours d’Elegance in Germany – a testament to its outstanding originality and quality.

This Lamborghini 400GT 2+2 represents a rare opportunity to acquire a classic V12 grand tourer with known provenance, original color specification, and excellent mechanical condition. With carefully preserved details and factory-correct presentation, it is a true collector’s car for the discerning enthusiast who values authenticity, integrity, and timeless design.
