Jensen Interceptor MKIII 7.2 V8 - British class with American muscle
Picture yourself behind the wheel of one of those rare automotive icons that instantly conjures a sense of class, power and exclusivity. That is the Jensen Interceptor. Jensen Motors, founded in West Bromwich in the 1930s, was always renowned for its craftsmanship and for marrying British elegance to brute performance. Where the likes of Aston Martin and Jaguar chased the racing circuit, Jensen went for the ultimate Grand Tourer: a car built to devour great distances in style and comfort, with enough grunt to raise a grin at every set of traffic lights.
The Interceptor arrived in 1966 as the marque's flagship. The model was a bold leap for Jensen: an entirely new design by the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring. The flowing lines, the commanding long bonnet and that signature panoramic rear window gave the Interceptor a presence that was well ahead of its time.
When the MKIII launched in 1971, Jensen was at the very top of its game. The MKIII was more luxurious, more powerful and more refined than ever before, and the example you see here is a glorious specimen of that ultimate iteration.
The mighty 7.2 litre Chrysler V8, an engine with presence
Beneath the gleaming silver bonnet beats a heart that is unmistakably American: the 7.2 litre Chrysler V8, better known as the "440 cubic inch". With its deep burble and smooth delivery, this powerplant effortlessly blends power with refinement. Thanks to the automatic transmission the Interceptor glides along the road in relaxed fashion, but the slightest brush of the throttle unleashes a tidal wave of torque that turns every drive into an occasion.
It is precisely this combination of British styling and American muscle that makes the Interceptor so special. Few other cars from the 1970s offer such a unique blend of elegance, comfort and raw power.
A time capsule in silver, character and patina
This 1972 Jensen Interceptor MKIII is in lovely driver's condition, exactly as a classic GT is meant to be. The silver paintwork wears its years with pride, and the black interior breathes the atmosphere of authentic British luxury. Everything you see, feel and hear tells a story of miles travelled and memories made.
With 101,854 on the clock, this is clearly no mere museum piece but a car that has lived, and still lives. The interior, with its elegant dashboard and deep leather seats, invites you to long drives along winding roads or a relaxed cruise down the promenade.
Some cars you buy to get from A to B. And some cars you buy because the journey itself is the point. The Jensen Interceptor falls firmly into that second category. It asks for attention, for knowledge, for an owner who understands that maintaining a fifty year old British-American GT is not a cost but an investment in rolling heritage.
Some cars get bought. This one wants to be adopted.
With a glass of single malt and the sound of seven litres in my ears,
Nick Slinger
