1958 Jaguar XK 150 Fixed Head Coupé

HISTORY/DOCUMENTATION
The Jaguar XK 150: a benchmark of the British car industry. One of the fastest road-legal cars of its time, yet at the same time a comfortable touring car, which made it particularly successful in the United States. Nowadays, we are delighted to have an ‘American’ XK, as cars from this region are originally left-hand drive and come from a favourable climate. This example was built on 25 June 1958, as evidenced by the Jaguar Heritage certificate (issued in 2008), and was delivered by Jaguar Cars in New York. Originally fitted with a 4-speed manual gearbox and optional transmission, this makes it a highly sought-after example. All the more so because the car underwent a full body-off restoration from around 2015 to around 2023, during which a number of technical improvements were made. The car was imported into the Netherlands in 1999 and has been owned by the current owner since 2005, who owns several classic cars. Extensive documentation is included with the car, such as a detailed photo report of the restoration, dozens of invoices and a valuation report from 2023, in which the car is valued at a replacement value of €80,000. The car is fitted with a LoJack post-theft tracking system.

EXTERIOR
During the restoration, the car was dismantled, with the bodywork also being removed from the chassis. Both were completely stripped of paint at the time. The bodywork was then treated with cataphoresis (a high-quality, uniform anti-corrosion coating) and painted in the iconic British Racing Green. The paintwork is in good condition with no damage. The weld seams have been finished with grease. The chassis and the underside of the car have also been treated. New stainless steel bumpers have been fitted at the front and rear. The stunning chrome wire-spoke wheels are in excellent condition and are fitted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tyres, which are in good condition. The front lighting is manufactured by Lucas and is in good condition.

INTERIOR
The interior has also been restored using high-quality parts from BAS Jaguar Trim Specialist. As a result, the interior is in good condition and beautifully finished with beige leather upholstery on the seats, door panels and dashboard. The upholstery is also in good condition and is finished in beige. The distinctive dashboard is finished with a stunning inlaid walnut wood. The large and imposing steering wheel is positioned almost vertically. The instruments are manufactured by Smiths and are in good condition. Furthermore, the interior features a Bluetooth radio (with a classic look) and a USB/USB-C port. The two seats on the rear bench are also in good condition, as is the headlining. The boot is in neat condition and the lower compartment accommodates the spare wheel and a jack.

TECHNICAL
At the time, the XK 150 was one of the first mass-produced cars to be fitted with disc brakes all round as standard. This was no luxury, given the 3,442 cc 6-cylinder in-line engine with twin SU carburettors, which delivers 190 hp. This engine has been overhauled, with new pistons and piston rings fitted. The timing chains have also been replaced. A number of technical improvements have been made, such as a tappet hold-down kit, a modern crankshaft seal conversion kit, 1-2-3 ignition, a new aluminium fuel tank, a new wiring harness, and new brake cylinders and brake lines (fitted with DOT 5 brake fluid). The car sounds fantastic and driving it is a wonderfully pure experience. The car drives, changes gear and brakes well.

GENERAL
The XK was Jaguar’s first production car following the Second World War. The model range began with the XK 120 in 1948, with ‘120’ denoting the top speed in miles per hour. At the time, it was the fastest road-legal production car. Following the XK120 and XK150, the Jaguar XK150 was introduced in May 1957. The XK150 bore clear family resemblances to the XK120 and XK140, but had been radically updated both technically and visually. Most striking were the one-piece windscreen, which replaced the split windscreen, and the higher, more streamlined line of the wings near the doors. The wider bonnet extended over the front wings, and on the coupés the windscreen frame was moved 10.2 cm forward to make entry easier. The car was available in a range of colours, including red, pearl grey, white, indigo blue, claret, Cotswold blue, black, mist grey, Sherwood green, Carmen red, British Racing Green, Cornish grey and Imperial maroon.
The XK150’s dashboard was upholstered in leather, with walnut wood available as an option for all models. On the early drophead coupés, the aluminium centre section of the dashboard — which was discontinued after June 1958 — featured an X-shaped engraving, similar to that of the early 3.8 E-Type. Thinner doors provided more interior space. A small red indicator light showed when the front parking lights, mounted on top of the mudguards, were switched on.
The suspension and chassis were largely similar to those of the XK140, with manual rack-and-pinion steering. The 3.4-litre inline six-cylinder engine with twin overhead camshafts (DOHC) was very similar to that of its predecessor, but thanks to a new ‘B’ type cylinder head, power increased to 190 bhp at 5,500 rpm. Only 4,445 examples of the XK150 FHC were built. The XK is regarded as one of the most important British classic sports cars ever built.

HISTORIE/DOKUMENTATION
Der Jaguar XK 150: ein Meilenstein der britischen Automobilindustrie. Eines der schnellsten straßenzugelassenen Autos seiner Zeit und zugleich ein komfortables Tourenauto, wodurch er insbesondere auch in den Vereinigten Staaten erfolgreich war. Heutzutage freuen wir uns über einen „amerikanischen“ XK, da Autos aus dieser Region ursprünglich linksgesteuert sind und aus einem günstigen Klima stammen. Dieses Exemplar wurde am 25. Juni 1958 gebaut, wie aus dem Jaguar Heritage-Zertifikat (ausgestellt 2008) hervorgeht, und wurde von Jaguar Cars in New York ausgeliefert. Da es ursprünglich mit einem 4-Gang-Schaltgetriebe und einem optionalen Getriebe ausgestattet war, ist es ein begehrtes Exemplar. Umso mehr, als das Auto von ca. 2015 bis ca. 2023 komplett karosseriegetrennt restauriert wurde, wobei einige technische Verbesserungen vorgenommen wurden. Das Fahrzeug wurde 1999 in die Niederlande importiert und befindet sich seit 2005 im Besitz des derzeitigen Eigentümers, der mehrere Oldtimer besitzt. Umfangreiche Unterlagen liegen dem Fahrzeug bei, darunter eine ausführliche Fotodokumentation der Restaurierung, Dutzende von Rechnungen und ein Gutachten aus dem Jahr 2023, in dem der Wiederbeschaffungswert des Fahrzeugs auf 80.000 € geschätzt wird. Das Fahrzeug verfügt über ein LoJack-Diebstahlortungssystem.

AUSSEN
Während der Restaurierung wurde das Fahrzeug zerlegt, wobei auch die Karosserie vom Fahrgestell abgenommen wurde. Beide Teile wurden damals vollständig entlackt. Die Karosserie wurde anschließend einer Kataphorese-Behandlung unterzogen (eine hochwertige, gleichmäßige Korrosionsschutzschicht) und in der ikonischen Farbe British Racing Green lackiert. Der Lack befindet sich in einem guten Zustand ohne Beschädigungen. Die Schweißnähte wurden mit Schmierzinn versiegelt. Auch das Fahrgestell und die Unterseite des Fahrzeugs wurden behandelt. An der Vorder- und Rückseite wurden neue Stoßstangen aus Edelstahl angebracht. Die wunderschönen Chrom-Speichenräder befinden sich in ausgezeichnetem Zustand und sind mit Vredestein Sprint Classic-Reifen ausgestattet, die sich in gutem Zustand befinden. Die Beleuchtung an der Vorderseite stammt von Lucas und befindet sich in gutem Zustand.

INTERIEUR
Auch der Innenraum wurde restauriert, unter Verwendung hochwertiger Teile von BAS Jaguar Trim Specialist. Dadurch befindet sich der Innenraum in einem guten Zustand und ist wunderschön mit beigen Lederbezügen an den Sitzen, den Türverkleidungen und dem Armaturenbrett ausgestattet. Auch die...
