Beschreibung
As can be seen with the Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, this XK 120 drophead, one of only 1’472 left hand drive examples built, was completed on the 16th of September 1953 and exported to Los Angeles on the 17th November. Many years ago, the Jaguar was imported into Switzerland and registered locally. The then owner decided to have the rare cabriolet restored but for some reason was unable to complete the task. Several years ago, the Jaguar, partly disassembled, was taken over by an enthusiast who, being a garage owner himself, completed an extensive restoration over the next three years. The coachwork was removed from the chassis and the complete mechanical side was checked. The matching numbers engine was overhauled and the four-speed gearbox received a partial revision. The rear axle was converted, - as on the XK140 -, to telescopic shock absorbers and a stainless steel exhaust system was installed. The coachwork, with those rare and elegant spats, was repainted in the chic Jaguar “Dove grey” colour (originally it had been black) and the interior was recovered in red leather (originally tan). After completion of the restoration, the XK was proving its mettle in the Rallye des Cathédrales over 3’500 miles. In 2021 the beautiful cabriolet with then 11’900 miles indicated, was sold to a next owner who in July 2023 passed the car on to the vendor with only 300 additional miles driven. Currently the Jaguar is in very good overall condition and will be handed over to a new owner with the most recent veteran MOT from September 2021. The MOT will be renewed at the vendors expense for a Swiss buyer.
