Beschreibung

"The XJS convertible, which first appeared in 1988 at a price of £36,000, was considerably more than merely a coupé with the roof removed. The earlier 'T-top' Cabriolet paved the way as the first open Jaguar since the departure of the E-Type in 1975, but this was to be the first full convertible and a strengthened sub-frame was employed in order to alleviate scuttle shake. It looked superb and elegant with the hood erect or folded and finally met the demands of the highly valued North American market. Retaining the roomy cockpit space of the coupé, the new convertible boasted a useful shelf for extra luggage and all the expected Jaguar refinements as standard. The XJS's superb 5.3 litre engine developed some 295bhp in later fuel injected form and, even when allied to an automatic transmission, the car was capable of a genuine 150mph. It made for a very fine open-top 'Grand Touring' car, exceeding the specification of other home-grown machinery and being much cheaper than the equivalent high profile Mercedes SL.
This lovely 1990 Jaguar XJS convertible is showing 88,150 miles on the odometer and is finished in the wonderful colour combination of Bordeaux Red metallic over a contrasting Magnolia interior and comes complete with Lattice alloy wheels. Offered in good order throughout, this Jaguar has been treated to much maintenance work during the vendors tenure including various services and an extensive refresh to the paintwork. The paintwork retains a deep shine and the interior is presented very nicely. Offered from 19 years of single private ownership this XJS has been owned by just two families from new and comes with a sizeable history file detailing its past. Included in the file are many previous MoT test certificates, maintenance invoices, a V5 registration document, a current MoT test certificate valid until July 2021 and the original service and workshop booklets. Also present is the original toolkit and the spare wheel. A nicely presented example of the flagship 5.3 litre V12 XJS which has established itself as a most worthy, latter-day, classic."
