Jaguar introduced the factory-built full Convertible in 1988, initially exclusively with the 5.3-litre V12
Original Belgian conformity
5.3-litre / 5,307 cc V12 petrol engine / Rear-wheel drive
Approximately 432 Nm of torque in the 295 PS European specification
Naturally aspirated V12 / Electronic fuel injection / 3-speed automatic transmission
The V12 XJ-S of this generation used the robust GM Turbo-Hydramatic 400 automatic gearbox
Current odometer reading 57,293 km
Belgian Car-Pass history available
Car-Pass records 45,414 km in October 2000

54,317 km in 2009
54,593 km in 2010
55,091 km in 2011
55,453 km in 2012
55,522 km in August 2015
Current displayed mileage of 57,293 km means only 1,771 km have been added since the documented 2015 Car-Pass reading
The car has covered only 11,879 km between the earliest available 2000 Car-Pass record and its current displayed mileage
The progression of the documented mileage is notably consistent and supports a well-documented low-mileage history from at least 2000 onwards
First Belgian registration recorded by Car-Pass on 14 May 1992
As the first registration of the car itself is dated 5 March 1990, the documents indicate that it was first registered outside Belgium before being registered in Belgium in 1992
VIN number SAJJNADW4DM170755
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust records 169530 as the first XJ-S VIN of 1990 and 176103 as the start of the 1991 model year, VIN 170755 therefore falls clearly within 1990 production.

A particularly attractive specification combining the 5.3-litre V12, automatic transmission, LHD and factory Convertible body
One of the XJ-S variants that best represents Jaguar's late-1980s and early-1990s luxury GT philosophy
The XJ-S was produced for 21 years, with Jaguar Heritage recording a total production of 115,413 cars across all versions
XJ-S
The Jaguar XJ-S was introduced in 1975 as the successor to the legendary E-Type. Rather than attempting to recreate the E-Type as a pure sports car, Jaguar developed the XJ-S as a sophisticated high-speed Grand Tourer, combining long-distance comfort, luxury and the exceptional smoothness of Jaguar's V12 engine. The model ultimately remained in production for more than two decades and became one of Jaguar's longest-running and most successful cars, with 115,413 examples produced before production ended in 1996.
An important development came in 1981 with the High Efficiency, or “HE”, V12, which improved fuel efficiency while retaining the effortless performance for which the twelve-cylinder Jaguar had become famous.
The major change for open-top enthusiasts arrived in 1988, when Jaguar introduced the genuine factory XJ-S Convertible. Unlike the earlier XJ-SC with its fixed roof structure and removable panels, the new Convertible featured a fully retractable soft top and was initially offered exclusively with the 5.3-litre V12. It quickly became one of the most desirable versions of the XJ-S and helped give the model a new lease of life at the end of the 1980s.
This 1990 example therefore belongs to the desirable pre-facelift V12 Convertible period, combining the original XJ-S styling with the mature HE V12, automatic transmission and the fully open factory body introduced only two years earlier. The XJ-S would receive a substantial facelift from 1991, before eventually being replaced by the Jaguar XK8 in 1996.
