Low mileage
Steeped in the glory which its iconic E-Type had brought it, Jaguar sought a worthy replacement for that remarkable model, and in 1969 set to work on the project codenamed XJ 27. But it was only on 10 September 1975 that Coventry's new GT was revealed to the press. The XJ-S Coupé was equipped with the 5.3-litre V12 engine producing 285bhp. Its chassis - based on that of the XJ saloons - was a strong point of this charming coupé and favoured balanced handling and comfort. It was ably supported by the car's smooth, quiet running and the generous level of standard equipment. As far as the bodywork was concerned, in 1983 Jaguar commissioned the English coachbuilder Tickford to build a Targa-type convertible known as the XJ-SC. Initially offered with a 3.6- litre engine, this convertible version received the V12 in 1985. It was only in the spring of 1988, 13 years after the Coupé had been launched, that Jaguar officially presented a full convertible version, which was produced in association with the coachbuilder Karmann.

The XJ-S convertible V12 we present here was delivered new on July 13, 1988 by the British Motors dealership in Monaco. Its first owner, Mr. Jerry Tassone will take care of its maintenance at the after-sales service of the British Motors dealership until 2001, as attested by his original service book. It was then serviced by its new owner in Nice and joined the Francis Staub collection a few years later. Today, the Jaguar XJ-S Convertible is credited with 41,900 kilometers on the odometer, which seems to be its original mileage, and is in good overall condition. The bodywork is in good condition, the leather interior looks good and the mechanics are in good working order as is the electric soft top. The technical inspection passed in February 2020 nevertheless presents some defects that will require an overhaul (parking brake, light source at the front left, leakage). It is objectively a very beautiful car, with few kilometers and presented at an attractive estimate.
