Beschreibung
The Jaguar XJ of the X308 series is a further development of the X300, which was launched in 1994; the X300, in turn, despite a significantly revised exterior design, represents a facelift of the XJ40 series launched in 1986. Whilst the exterior design was largely carried over from its predecessor, the X300, the interior underwent a significant redesign with softer, more flowing lines. Furthermore, for the first time in the XJ series – which had been in production since 1968 – V8 engines were used in place of the previous 6- and 12-cylinder units. The X308 was unveiled in autumn 1997 and adopted the AJ-V8 engine, with 3.2- and 4.0-litre displacement, which had already been introduced the previous year in the X100 coupé and convertible range. The top-of-the-range engine was the supercharged variant with a 4.0-litre displacement and 363 hp. In the 1999 model year, the naturally aspirated AJ-V8 engines, internally designated AJ-26, were replaced by the revised AJ-27 engines. The AJ-26S, supercharged by an Eaton supercharger, was replaced the following year by the AJ-27S. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels exclusively via a five-speed automatic gearbox. This Jaguar XJ-R, fitted with a supercharged 4-litre V8 engine producing 363 hp, was originally delivered to Belgium; it was sold by Jaguar Antwerp on 2 January 2001 and first registered on 3 September of that year. Its history in Belgium is unknown. In 2011, with just over 144’000 km on the clock at the time, the sporty saloon was imported into Switzerland and registered here. Following a change of ownership in 2021, the XJ-R was taken over by the current owner in June 2026, who realized that the car was too large for his needs. Currently, this elegant British saloon has 172’600 km on the clock and is in good original condition, with signs of age in the paintwork. With its leather interior, heated front seats, fine wood trim, built-in telephone, air conditioning and power steering, the XJ-R offers the opportunity to purchase an extremely luxurious car that offers good value for money. The last MOT was carried out in May 2026, meaning this superb saloon can be registered immediately.
