Beschreibung

Quite simply this must be the finest example of an XJ6 4.2 Series 2 model available, it has covered just 37,000 miles in the hands of four owners from new, is incredibly original throughout and is a multiple concours winning example.

Finished in the great colour combination of British Racing Green with contrasting Moss Green leather interior and fitted with the optional GM400 automatic gearbox, the Jaguar was completed at the factory on the 17th May 1976 and dispatched to the supplying dealer, Lex Mead, in Weybridge, Surrey on the 26th May. This is all documented on the Production Record Trace Certificate from The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust on file. The first owner, a local and loyal customer collected the car on the 7th of June. This owner obviously loved his Jaguar as he kept it until August 1984 as confirmed in a letter on file to the second owner, this also confirms that he had owned and driven the car from new covering 19,616 miles in this period.

The second owner, a Mr Dunkley, retained the Jaguar until June 1991 and used it sparingly during his tenure, the mileage rising to just 22,000 miles in this period. Again, this is confirmed in a letter on file to the third owner.

This third owner, a Mr Clive Innocent was a well-known concours winner with a variety of cars and he chose this XJ4.2, clearly in excellent original condition still, as his best route to concours success in the Jaguar world.

A fellow concours entrant, a Mr David Brown, fell in love with the Jaguar the moment he first saw it, parked next to his as new Triumph 2000 at a concours event but it took him until December 1997 to finally persuade Mr Innocent to sell him the car, at this point the mileage had risen to nearly 26,000 miles.

In this last owners hands the Jaguar became quite a concours legend with countless concours entries and victories around the UK, notably this included a very high score in the Jaguar Drivers Club Champion of Champions event in 2009. Success followed also in the Elite Class of the Autoglym Concours Events over the years.

A good history file details the maintenance of this special Jaguar, this includes service invoices, past MOT certificates, correspondence as referred to above magazine articles in the car and a small book detailing maintenance and mileage increments.

We purchased the Jaguar directly from the Brown family following his sad passing. Since then a major service has been carried out and a professional detail. Quite simply the Jaguar looks and even smells like new and has clearly been very carefully looked after and driven by each of its four owners from new. On the road there is a smoothness and tightness that only a very good original car ever displays.

A special Jaguar, the best of its type, lovely to own and drive, for not very much money really.
