In the mid-1960s, the range of Jaguar sedans included 4 variants. For the sake of harmonization, the Coventry firm launched the XJ6 in 1968. Its style is a complete break with its predecessors, abandoning typical curves for a more pure and slender body. Thus was born the one to which we will soon be awarded the title of best sedan in the world. Three generations will follow one another before giving way in 1987 to a brand new XJ, the XJ40 whose internal code name will follow it throughout its career. No body panels are in common with the older versions, their style is more modern and more angular. Inside, the instrumentation becomes fully electronic. Available in several versions, the XJ40 will be manufactured until 1994 and will mark a real turning point for the Coventry brand.
This copy was sold new in 1990 by the Jaguar-Wilson dealership in Levallois-Perret. Its owner, a resident of Neuilly-sur-Seine, will keep it until 2018, after having covered just over 120,000 kilometers on board. As evidenced by the very complete invoice file, all maintenance was carried out at Jaguar in Levallois-Perret, and later at the specialist Jackie-Jag in Courbevoie. When purchasing his XJ, the owner wishes to acquire a Sovereign version, but this is not immediately available, so he will buy the showroom model and have the Sovereign version optics fitted. The XJ is still in Neuilly-sur-Seine but with its second and current owner who will have covered nearly 10,000 km in two years. Aesthetically, the car is in very good condition having received full detailing in 2019. The body has been polished while the fawn leather upholstery is supple and perfectly preserved. The tires deserve to be replaced, and the headliner will have to be redone. Mechanically, the car has recently undergone careful care for an amount of € 1,200 at JJR in Courbevoie. The best production engine, the 4.0L is in great shape, but the replacement of the exhaust manifolds and the automatic transmission management module will need to be replaced. With a low mileage, always well maintained and sold with its 3 keys, its notebooks, and its complete tool kit, this Jaguar XJ40 is the pinnacle of elegance at a low price.
