A very unique car, only a few remain worldwide. In excellent condition. The SS1 (Swallow Sidecar) was originally introduced to a large audience in 1931 at the Olympia Motorshow and was designed by Sir William Lyons. During the war, this beauty managed to stay in hiding very well, it can now be admired in its former glory in Oldemarkt, the Netherlands. A total of 1,145 SS1 cars were built in all variants.

Our SS1 was delivered new in Barcelona. The car was, as was customary at the time, shipped to Spain with only this chassis, this engine and a full powertrain, grille and mudguards. A coachbuilder in Barcelona built the open-top four-seater tourer bodywork. Many of the SS cars were used in competitions where the odd one didn’t survive. It is very special that this SS1 has been preserved in such good condition.

To prevent the car from being confiscated, many owners during the Spanish Civil War hid their car and cancelled their paperwork. This is what also happened to this car. Once the civil war was over, this SS1 was re-registered in 1942, it was given a new chassis number and registration papers.

The body is sprayed in Apple Green, an original SS1 colour. Difficult to photograph, but it really stands out in real life. The mudguards and footboards have a nice contrasting dark green, racing green, paintwork. The lines of the SS1 therefore look better.

The interior was reupholstered in dark green leather as well as the dashboard and the tonneau cover.
