Between 1959 and 1967 the Jaguar Mk2 was in production Between 1959 and 1967 at the Coventry Jaguar plant. Sir William Lyons came up with the slogan “Space...Grace….Pace…”. The car we have for you is the top of the range Jaguar Mk2 3.8 automatic. It has been the subject of an older, top-quality restoration. The car is still in excellent shape thanks to the combination of the extremely professional restoration, perfect maintenance and warm garaging. This Jaguar hit the open roads in 1963 for the first time and was subsequently exported to the Netherlands in 1975. The previous lady owner bought the car in 1989 and that is where, until recently it stayed. She commissioned the well known Dutch restorer Bert Holland to restored the car in the ’90s. As mentioned above the quality of the restoration works was carried out to a very high level and with a keen intention on keeping it authentic. The bodywork was re-sprayed in wonderful Jaguar Opalescent Gun Metal Grey with the interim trim re-upholstered in sumptuous cream coloured supple Connelly hide. The mechanics were also tendered to. The original engine and gearbox were fully overhauled. You can still readily appreciate that expense nor effort was spared during the restoration. The bodywork is still in great condition with nice and straight, correctly aligned panelwork. The Gun Metal Grey paintwork is exceptionally neat considering its age and still has a lovely deep lustre, which demonstrates the quality of the then paint job. The brightwork is lovely and is fitted without showing any gapping. The excellent condition of the beautiful wire wheels also deserves a mention. Finally, we would draw your attention to the Jaguar’s lovely front fog lights. The car’s inside is just as wonderful. The leather of the front seats and the rear bench is in fine condition and just as supple as the day it was fitted. The dashboard and doors are finished in Walnut Burr with only minute signs of wear. The overall impression is still quite stunning though. To help with getting in the car a Moto Lita wooden steering wheel was used, adding a nice luxurious touch. Of course, it would not be truly British without the Smith instrument panel. The counters are clear and in good working order. Good impressions continue afoot under the bonnet. The engine bay is spotless. The engine having been fully rebuilt. The 3.8-litre straight-six delivers 190 Ps and runs fantastically smooth and thanks to its large bore always has more than enough pep. The supple automatic suits the MK2’s refined character. The Koni shock breakers add to exemplary road-holding without losing any of the ride comforts. Photos of the car underneath confirm the total absence of rust. In the ’60s the Jaguar Mk2 3.8 was the crème de la crème of the car industry and today it has lost none of that charm. It is up to you to decide whether you will use her daily or keep her for special occasions. Whatever you choose be sure that every mile will deliver that unique classic Jaguar experience. Please enjoy the “Grace… Space… and especially its Pace!
