HISTORY:

In 1959 Jaguar launched the Mk II, an improved evolution of its previous model (retrospectively called Mk I), considered by automobile critics as the best sedan built by the British brand for its combination of design, chassis and mechanics: a medium-sized car, with four doors, five seats and a large boot, roomy and comfortable, powered by a lively double-overhead cam six-cylinder engine allowing to travel long distances quickly and safely. Few sports cars back then gave as much as this car.

It stayed for ten years in the market, being available in three versions of the XK engine: 2.4 liter (120 HP), 3.4 liter (210 HP) and 3.8 liter (220 hp), coupled with a 3-speed automatic gearbox or 4-speed manual with overdrive. The most powerful versions enjoyed a self-locking differential, as the vigorous torque and delivery of power would shake the rear axle under strong acceleration. The total production was 83,980 units.

The Mk II also has its legend. It is said that it became the favorite car of all English bank robbers during the 60s... which took the police to set up a fleet of these cars to be in equal conditions when the criminals had to be chased. However, this Jaguar achieved some respectable sports records thanks to its endless victories in circuits, rallies and hill climbs. Nowadays it is a very desirable classic, and its value hasn´t stopped increasing. Specialists like Beecham or Vicarage developed some technology to improve their comfort, performance and reliability, performing outstanding restoration jobs that include important changes.

The car included in our collection is a 3.8 liter unit built in 1963, equipped with overdrive, self-locking differential, wire wheels, leather seats and wood fittings. Its double-overhead cam engine fed by two SU HD6 carburettors allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.5 seconds, and the four servo-assisted disc brakes can stop the vehicle fast and effectively. In other words, an automobile designed to travel in style and to enjoy the pleasure of driving.
